Inserting Video From YouTube Into PowerPoint (2007)
A friend asked me about this so, I thought I’d write it down here for anyone else who might be trying to do this….so here we go….
- First, you need to convert the video from YouTube into a format that PowerPoint can use. Videos on YouTube are saved using the .FLV format. We need to get it into a format PowerPoint understands….AVI, WMV and MPEG
- Find your video on YouTube and copy the link to it from the address bar in the browser. The whole “http://whatever yourvideois” link
- Head over to Zamzar and paste the link to your video in the “step one” box.
Under the video format section of the drop down in “Step 2” select the format you want the video converted to (avi, wmv or mpeg).
Enter you email address and click convert.
Wait about 30 minutes and you will receive an email with a link pointing you to your newly converted video. Download it and save it inside your PowerPoint project folder.
- In PowerPoint, on the Insert tab, point to Movie, and then click Movie from File.
- Navigate to where you saved your converted video, highlight it and then click OK.
- After you click OK, you’ are promoted with a message asking how you want the movie to start in the slide show. You can select “play automatically” or “play when clicked” .
Tips:
1. This isnt the only way to add video to PowerPoint but it is the easiest way. If you want to get fancy, under Developer’s tools you can add Windows Media Player capabilities.
2. When playing the video that is inserted in this way in the PowerPoint, it only shows the video picture, and only has two control options: play or stop. So you can’t select the playing time freely.
3. Only video in formats of AVI, MPEG and WMV can be inserted in this way
4. Always put the movie in the same folder as your PowerPoint presentation. If you later move the PowerPoint presentation to another computer, copy the movie too. Keeping your movie in the same folder as your presentation ensures the link will still work. However, you should always test the movie on a new machine just to be certain. Re-insert the movie, if necessary.
Make more money with your money
Interest rates for bank accounts these days are lower than a snake’s belly.
So, maybe you’re looking to make more on your checking account. Or, maybe you don’t earn interest from your checking account.
In that case, pay a visit to CheckingFinder. Its goal is to help you find high-interest checking accounts.
Of course, you want to choose carefully when selecting a deal. You don’t want to get hit with ATM fees. Nor do you want to pay for online banking or bill pay.
You don’t have to worry about these things with CheckingFinder. Banks featured give you free online banking and bill pay. They’ll also refund ATM fees.
All of the accounts are insured, so that should put your mind to rest. Likewise, there is no minimum balance—just high interest rates!
I found accounts with rates over four percent. That’s a far cry from what most banks offer. And you can open your new account in minutes. Just click the Open button next to the bank of your choice.
Download your friends’ Facebook photos
Facebook is one of the most popular places to share photos. You’re already connected to your friends and family. You can easily view their photos. But what if you want a copy for yourself?
Too bad. You can’t download photos your friends post. You have to ask for copies. And they have to be sent to you some other way.
Well, two tools fix this problem. The first is PhotoGrabber. Simply log into your account. Choose a friend off your friends list. Then download your friend’s photos. They must be tagged with your name or friends’ names. You can’t choose specific photos. It’s an all-or-nothing affair.
FacePAD offers a little more control. It’s a Firefox add-on that lets you download specific photo albums. You can grab just the photos you want.
(Photo downloading may be restricted by your friends’ privacy settings. Also, Facebook photos are heavily compressed. Don’t expect high-quality photos.)
Is Your Drinking Water Safe?
These days, fewer of us drink tap water. Many prefer bottled water.
Unfortunately, the cost of bottled water can add up quickly. If you’ve resolved to save money in 2010, you may be thinking about ditching bottled water.
Before you do that, head over to ewg.org. It will help you find out how safe your tap water is.
The site will tell you what contaminants and chemicals have been found in your water. You’ll see if the contaminants exceed legal or recommended health limits.
Chances are you won’t want to drink the tap water. That is, without filtering it first. In that case, you’ll also find information on selecting the right water filter.
Animation vs. Animator
This is creative brilliance! An animator’s animation fights back. See it here.
Happy Eid al-Adha
So did you see this on the Best Buy sales flyer the day before Thanksgiving?
No Happy Thanksgiving or Merry Christmas but they did wish you a Happy Eid al-Adha.
Eid al-Adha, or the Feast of Sacrifice, is a Muslim holiday lasting four days. The feast is based on Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son to display his obedience to God. According to the Koran, a voice from heaven stopped Ibrahim, allowing him to sacrifice a ram instead. Part of this celebration includes Muslims slaughtering camels, bulls, sheep in the streets, by cutting their throats and letting the blood run out until they die (Peta, where are you?).
Of course in the past, Best Buy has been one of those retailers that has refused to use or say the word Christmas in any of its advertisement preferring instead to use “Happy Holidays”.
I don’t have a problem with this unless of course I don’t see a “Merry Christmas” on their next sales flyer. If not, Best Buy has seen the last of my business.

For one will scarcely die for a righteous person — though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die — but God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:7-8
On October 20th, the terrorist, dressed in lady’s clothing, approached the women’s campus of Islamabad’s International Islamic University.
His loose-fitting robes concealed the explosives, which had been wrapped in layers of ball bearings. It was the kind of device that would produce a high body count when detonated inside a cafeteria filled with hundreds of college-age students.
The terrorist shot the guard and prepared to enter the dining hall.
That was when Pervaiz Masih, a custodian for the school, stepped into the doorway.
Masih told the poorly disguised man he couldn’t go in. The man insisted, but Masih stood firm.
The terrorist detonated his bomb. Three students were killed — far less than what might have happened if Masih had not sacrificed himself.
That’s the story, except for these details: Masih had been working at the school for less than a week, working at a job that paid $60 a month.
Masih is considered a hero by the girls, but his grave is unmarked and his family is behind in their apartment rent.
Oh, there is one other thing you should know: Masih was a Christian.
So I ask you this: What would motivate an impoverished man to sacrifice himself for a lot of kids who were from a different faith?
I can think of no answer to that question other than this: Pervaiz Masih had stood at the foot of Jesus’ cross. There Masih had seen His Savior sacrifice Himself so that 2000 years later custodians — and all who believe — might be assured that terrorists and devils and death don’t have the final word.
I mourn for the six other members of Masih family who continue to live in a one-room apartment, but I rejoice in the sacrifice this custodian made in the Savior’s Name.
THE PRAYER: Dear Lord, upon the cross You changed the destiny, the salvation of all who believe. We give thanks for Your gift of grace even as we rejoice in the witness that was made by a Christian custodian. May the world see how Christians, empowered by the Holy Spirit, can love one another. In Your Name. Amen.

A little Thanksgiving trivia…….
Did you know that Thanksgiving was at one time a week earlier than it is now? It’s true!
In 1939, President Franklin D. Roosevelt changed Thanksgiving to the third Thursday in November to create more shopping days before Christmas and to give the economy a boost.
In 1941, the president returned Thanksgiving to the fourth Thursday.
Turkey Trivia
• A male turkey is called a tom, a female is a hen, and a youngster is a poult.
• Because the wild turkey is quick to defend itself and fight against all predators, Ben Franklin wanted it, rather than the bald eagle, to be the symbol of the United States.
• The wobbly little thing on the turkey’s chest is the turkey’s beard; it’s made of keratin bristles.
